Pre-Formal - Connecting & Responding

Curriculum 

  • The LHS Pre-formal Curriculum emphasises: Sensory and experiential Learning, Communication, Co-regulation and Self-Help Skills
  • The curriculum for our pre-formal learners is focussed on seven broad areas of learning and development that derive from the four areas of need outlined in Education, Health and Care Plans. Gaining proficiency in these specific areas is essential for pupils to progress to subject-specific learning, if and when they are ready to do so.
  • The LHS Pre-formal Curriculum focuses on developing engagement for learning
  • Teaching and Learning combines structured and flexible approaches with focus on learning how to learn

Semi-formal – Making Choices

Curriculum 

  • The LHS Semi-formal Curriculum emphasises: Cognitive and experiential Learning, Communication, Self-regulation and Self-Help Skills
  • Pupils following the LHS Semi-formal Curriculum are engaged in a hybrid curriculum, incorporating aspects of the pre-formal areas of learning and development whilst incorporating additional subject-specific learning
  • The LHS Semi-formal Curriculum focuses on involvement and participation in learning
Teaching and Learning combines structured and flexible approaches with focus on developing skills for learning

Formal Cohort - Gaining Independence

Curriculum 

  • The LHS Formal Curriculum emphasises: Cognitive Learning, Communication, Self-regulation and Independence
  • Pupils following the LHS Formal Curriculum are engaged in subject-specific learning at NC assessment standard even if not at their expected chronological age level
  • The LHS Formal Curriculum focuses on initiating learning and developing independent life skills
Teaching and Learning combines structured and flexible approaches with focus on developing independent learning
