Spikes Visit to Hawaii

Day One

Off I went for my longest journey yet, to the beautiful Pacific island of Hawaii.  I was heading for Honolulu in Oahu, going with Ms Krisman and her family to a special wedding. I arrived in Honolulu very tired. But Ms Krisman’s stepson and his future wife were there to meet us. They put garlands around our necks to welcome us.  It was a real Hawaiian welcome.

Day Two

I went bowling on the military base.  I found it a bit hard to pick up the bowls as my paws are not made that way.  So I went for a walk and saw some beautiful Pacific flowers.  I loved the bright red hibiscus, the symbol of Hawaii.  I saw rainbows as colourful as a painting.  I’ve never seen such lovely rainbows.  Awesome!  Today I bought a new costume – a grass skirt and lei.  I wonder what my Little Heath friends will say when I wear it?

Day Three

Off I went in my grass skirt to visit the Byodo-Inn Buddish temple.  It is a copy of a temple in Japan.  I stared for ages at the huge gold Buddha inside the temple.  It had a lake full of gold koi carp.  It is a symbol of perseverance, that means keeping trying however hard it is to go on.  Later we went to Kalama Beach, the ocean was blue and the sky was full of puffy clouds.  The sand was so white and clean, I felt I was in bear paradise.

PS  Today I learnt to say that you in Hawaiian today, it is MAHALO

Day Four

Today was a good day for food!  I tried some Japanese sushi today.  There are lots of Japanese people living in Hawaii and so it is easy to get sushi.  I wish they could make chopsticks for bears.  I also had a delicious pineapple, it was so sweet and juicy.

Day Five

Today was the day of Elan and Victoria’s wedding.  I felt so privileged as a British bear to be one of the guests of honour.  The wedding took place outside and it was so sunny and bright.  The priest read a Native American blessing.  Elan wore his army uniform and Victoria wore a beautiful white long dress.  Later we had some Korean food and I especially enjoyed the wedding cake.

Day Six

Today I went to a big amusement arcade with my special friends Elan and Victoria.  It was called Dave and Buster’s. I put a token in a machine called Pharoah’s Fortune and pulled the lever.  To my surprise, the coin went in the winning hole and I did that not once but twice!  So Spike the bear was the hero of the evening.

Day Seven

Today I visited an art gallery full of pictures of whales.  Outside I saw a lovely car decorated with whale designs.  What would my Little Heath friends say if they saw me driving into the car park?  Anyway,  I can honestly say I had a whale of a time.

Day Eight

Well, they say that life’s a beach and today I sat on a wonderful beach watching people surf.  It was called Sunset Beach and was part of the Banzai Pipeline, the best place to surf in the world.  There was also the Budweiser Women’s Bodyboarding competition going on.  I stretched out on the sand, letting the sun get to my fur.  I felt as happy as if I had won the Jack Petchey.

Day Nine

This was a sad day because I had to leave my Hawaii friends.  But I knew I was going home via Vancouver in Canada, where many of my bear friends live.

Day Ten

On the way to the airport, I stopped at a thrift shop (charity shop) in Vancouver.  Lying there looking a bit lonely was a white teddy bear with a blue nose.  Ms Krisman decided to buy him so I had company on the flight.  She named him BC short for British Columbia and Blue Conk.
