With my passport
Spike is a teddy bear named by pupils at Little Heath School.  He is the focus of a project designed to help young people with special educational needs to:
  • develop their learning and communication skills, and

  • find out about people in other parts of the world

The project builds on the work of the school in developing email projects with schools and individuals throughout the world.

Spike has travelled to Turkey, France and Spain and visited schools in America and Austria.  Wherever he goes, Spike takes with him a variety of gifts and presents from pupils at Little Heath School for their email penpals, as well as items which will help pupils at partner schools understand more about Little Heath School, its environment and life in the United Kingdom.  His travels are recorded through photographs and diary entries and pupils at Little Heath School are able to keep in touch with him through email and the Internet.  Spike has his own email address and website, SpikeNet.  In this way, pupils become “virtual” visitors to other countries and develop important life skills in literacy, numeracy and information technology.

Spike’s adventures are recorded on the school website at www.littleheath.essex.sch.uk and readers interested in more information are invited to visit him there.
