Introduction

Little Heath School is located to the east of London, near Romford, in the county of Essex in the United Kingdom.  It has a country setting with large numbers of plane and willow trees and views over open fields, even though it is surrounded by urban areas.  In this assignment you will learn more about the school and its location and be introduced to the great city of London.


The Assignment

In this NetLink you will be introduced to Little Heath School and the surrounding area by visiting websites and doing the tasks outlined below. You will need a pencil or pen or access to a word processor to record your answers and the date you complete them on the worksheets provided.

Instructions: Step-by-step

Step 1  Click here to go to the Little Heath School website.

Task - Find the pages showing pictures of the school.

Choose one of the pictures and write down one question about it for use later.


Step 2   Go to this map site.

Task -  Type in the postal code for Little Heath School - RM6 5RX

Using the map:


Step 3  Click on the map and go to a list of leisure activities in the county of Essex.

 
Task -  Essex is the county where Little Heath School is located.  If you had time to spend in Essex, list three things you could do there to have fun. 


Step 4  Since Little Heath School is near London, students and staff can travel into the city by using the London Underground or Tube trains.

Task - Go to this website, click on Underground Information and choose the on-screen map of the London Underground system.  

Write the names of any three Underground Stations from the map.
 
(Note: You may need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0 software to view and print a better version of the map.)


Step 5  London is an exciting place to visit. There are lots of museums, galleries, exhibitions and places of historical interest for visitors.

Task - Go to this website and choose one tourist attraction to read about.  Write three facts about the attraction you chose.


Step 6  The weather in the United Kingdom varies from region to region.

Task - Go to this website.   Write down what the weather is like for South East England today

Optional - Print out a copy of the weather report.


Step 7  Since you are a cybertourist to London, send a postcard!

  
Task - Click on the POST CARD sign above to send a postcard from London to the students and staff of Little Heath School.  Tell them about one new thing you learned from any of the websites above.
