MathsThe Maths department caters for all abilities and offers a variety of internal and external accreditation to ensure that all students have the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
When students join Little Heath the students follow a modified curriculum based on the National Curriculum. The department delivers differentiated learning activities at the appropriate level and challenges students in a variety of interesting contexts. As they move through the school the students begin to solve increasingly demanding problems which offer a more sustained challenge.
From year 9 the pupils follow the Entry Level curriculum where they can achieve Bronze, Silver and Gold accreditation levels at pre GCSE. In 2005 this resulted in 99% Entry Level successful accreditation.
For the more able students we offer the GCSE Foundation course and in 2005 75% of the students entered gained a pass grade at GCSE.
Students are continually assessed throughout their time at Little Heath which enables us to direct the students into the correct National Accreditation level.
We feel that the Maths department communicates the fun, the wonder and the sheer usefulness of maths with success being celebrated through Spectrum certificates (an in house maths certified course); Plus 1; 10 Club and all its off shoots; Shine Awards (Norwich Union); Entry Level; GCSE Foundation; Asdan Transition Award; Bronze Post 16 where maths is taught as life skills
The Maths department is committed to ensuring all students at Little Heath School leave with an internal or external qualification in Mathematics, and 100% of students have either the opportunity to continue their education at school or in Further Education. |
